Historic Merger of Two Asian Chambers Heralds Asian American Economic Contribution in Central Texas

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - May 09, 2012) - Today, in the wake of a historic merger announcement of the Texas Asian Chamber of Commerce and the Austin Asian American Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce (GAACC) announces 2012 programming highlights and officers. The Central Texas Asian American population, estimated at 6.5 percent, has doubled in Austin, Texas since 1990. The new chamber promises to catalyze economic development in the region.

"Our chambers' respective members and sponsors have encouraged the two chambers to unify," says Ali Khataw, Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce co-chair. "The Asian Pacific Islander American community is really integral to the Central Texas economy, whether it is through small business revenues, the workforce, or civic engagement."

"GAACC is comprised of two very strong boards. Two years ago, the recognition of how we complimented each other was immediate. Since then, the memberships and officers of the two organizations have been working side-by-side to lay a solid foundation for increased economic benefit to Greater Austin," says Jim Yatsu, co-chair of the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce. "Now, with an expanded membership, we can continue making a significant regional impact, connecting jobseekers to employers, and small business owners with purchasing agents offering corporate and governmental contracts," he says.

The Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce 2012 programming slate includes:

Supporting business development by connecting small businesses with corporate and government supplier diversity officials; Supporting job creation by engaging global and national site selection teams with both in-depth information on the Greater Austin Asian Pacific American demographic and collaborative forums; Recruitment of Asian firms to Austin through outreach, education, and connecting potential Asian investors to resources and decision makers in Austin; and Strengthening economic ties in the community-at-large through networking and other events.
